A Tree, A Bird, A Child
03:41
|
|||
You said I was a tree
Putting down roots by a stream
You told me I would be strong
No matter what went wrong
But I’m creaking and bending in the storm
Through wind and hard rain, I am worn
You said I was a bird
Everyday you’d provide, that’s what I heard
You told me I could fly
Without a care, without a sigh
But these wings are so tired and sore
Afraid of what tomorrow has in store
You said I was a child
Hanging on to you in every trial
You told me a kingdom was mine
That you would hold me for all time
But lately I’m feeling alone
Would come back and take me home?

Let Me Make It Plain
03:39
|
|||
Let me make it plain.
I believe like a child that suffering will be healed
And made up for, that all
The humiliating absurdity of human contradictions
Will vanish like a pitiful mirage,
like the despicable fabrication
of the impotent and infinitely small mind of man,
That in the world’s finale, at the moment of
Eternal harmony, something so precious will
Come to pass that it
it will suffice for all hearts,
for the comforting of all resentments,
For the atonement of all the crimes of humanity,
Of all the blood they’ve shed; that it will make it not
Only possible to forgive but to justify
All that has happened with men
I believe like a child
I believe like a child
I believe

Foxes Have Holes
03:21
|
|||
Foxes have holes and birds have nests
But I have nowhere to lay my head
Follow me and leave your loves behind
And let the dead bury their own dead
For I’m on a way narrow, steep and long
Hear what I say: to me you belong
Mother may call and beg of you
Father may scoff and turn his back
But don’t you fear, no, don’t you weep
For I will give you all your lack
For I’m on a way narrow, steep and long
Hear what I say: to me you belong
These are the days of greedy men
Feeding on the poor and weak
Would you climb a tree with me
And show the world how to speak?
There comes a day wrongs will be put right
The schemes they’ve made, brought into the light

Mansion Door
03:45
|
|||
All of the people were smiling
Dressed up and looking so fine
Tasting the best of the harvest
Drinking the finest of wine
But then--
Suddenly up stood a man with
Fury and love in his eyes
Wondering what was the problem
Everyone looked as he cried, as he cried:
Just outside this mansion door
Lie the desperate, starving poor
While you laugh and take delight
They will surely die tonight
Bothered though somewhat amused they
Said we blameless and free
Proudly defending their virtues,
Questioned, “And who might you be?”
“I am a friend or foe for
It depends on what you hide
Will you go on in your blindness
Or let them join you inside?”
Just outside this mansion door
Lie the desperate, starving poor
While you laugh and take delight
They will surely
Rage and hatred did consume
Every soul which filled the room
Rushing on him hands and knife
On that night they took his life
Inside laughing
Outside shivering

Wandering Orphan
03:20
|
|||
I was a wandering orphan and you took me in
Naked and cold and alone, you covered my skin
Gave me your name and your song
Took everything I’d done wrong
Oh my God!
Father and mother, they fell and they left me for dead
All of their words and their lies still ring in my head
But oh how sweet the sound
Your grace to me came round
Oh my God!
Now I’ve more brothers and sisters
Than all of the sand on the shore of the sea
And I am a part of a story that’s pulling me
Right into eternity
When I look back it’s so clear that I should have died
Troubled, afflicted and threatened from every side
Surely I’d be in the grave
Had you not come to my aid
Oh my God!
Since I’ve been under your roof there is nothing to fear
Knowing I’m safe and I’m loved
And you’ll always be here
Even through fire or flood
I have been sealed in blood
Oh my God!

Death, You Are An Enemy
02:39
|
|||
You say that you are only natural,
That we're just cycling round
You say it's all a part of life,
So don't you wear a frown
But why then to do we paint our loved ones
Up to look like clowns
And pretend that all is well
As we drive them through the town
With our coffins and our hearses
All polished to a shine
We're putting on our funerals
And reciting all your lines
You keep us in denial,
We're convinced you are a friend
Patiently waiting for us
Right up 'til the very end (but I say)
Death, you are an enemy, a parasitic spy
Masquerading quietly you think you cannot die
Yet another service ends,
Every eulogy's been read
But we can't help but wonder
If the dead are really dead
Seems there's something in our bones
On which we can agree
We know that it's all wrong,
Not the way it's supposed to be
So I don't want your truce
Or your so-called peaceful terms
What I want is something more
Than a graveyard can discern
For I know you can't be trusted
And that's a guarantee
If I listen to you sales pitch,
I never will be free
Death you are an enemy,
You only speak in lies
I'm not giving into you
Or what your smile implies
No, I'm not hearing your song,
No, I'm not singing with your tune
But following my brother
Right up and out of the tomb

Oh Adam, what have you done?
You buried us, your daughters and sons
Without a word you just stood by
Let her take and swallow the lie
Yet everything was given to you,
A world so beautiful and so true
But you went and threw it away
For a night without a day
Cover up----with your pride
You can run-----but you can’t hide
Oh Adam, where have you gone?
You know he knows where you belong
And now he’s calling out your name
Think you can carry all of your shame
Oh Adam, how can this be?
With your silence and apathy
You brought a fall we can’t reverse
Now it’s clear, we’re under a curse
Cover up----with your pride
You can run-----but you can’t hide
Going down---the human race
To the grave---if there’s no grace
Oh Adam, what have you done
Given us a world of greed and the gun
Took the fruit and intro our blood
Came an evil like that of a flood
Cover up----with your pride
You can run-----but you can’t hide
Going down---the human race
To the grave---if there’s no grace

Set This World Aright
04:06
|
|||
We have left the room
Walked to a garden
And yet more road to tread
We have entered the gloom
Walked to the garden
And yet there's more to be said
My soul is very sorrowful
Even to death
Remain here and watch with me
Even to death
We have left the room
Walked to a garden
And now my brow is red
My soul is very sorrowful
Even to death
Remain here and watch with me
Even to death
I’m going to set this world aright
No matter the cost
I’m going to take you through the night
No, nothing will be lost
My soul is very sorrowful
But I will pay the cost
Remain here and watch with me
No, nothing will be lost

Oh My Love (Jealousy)
03:20
|
|||
Oh my Love, you are mine
Still you run time after time
Why do you leave me for these things which cannot fill?
Why do you turn away to those who only kill?
Soon your way, you’ll not find
Come to see, you’re lost and blind
So I will seek you, bring you back from brokenness
Then I will heal you, raise you up with tenderness
All of the lies, every scheme,
All of the stories you’ve told
I will unravel, I will uncover, I will not let you be sold
All of your lovers, they never sought you,
Blessed you or made you alive
I alone know you, suffered and bought you,
Took you and made you mine
Oh my Love, you are mine
Still you run time after time
So I will seek you, bring you back from brokenness
Then I will heal you, raise you up with tenderness
Oh my Love, where have you gone?
Jealousy is my song
